▶ Next Steps reads a record and its recent activity and proposes what to do next, in priority order. You can turn any step into a Salesforce task with one click.
Get next steps#
- Open a record page that has the Sales Agent, for example an Account, Lead, Contact or Opportunity.
- In the actions bar, click ▶ Next Steps.
The agent usually returns five to eight steps, most important first. Each step shows:
- The action, for example "Send the revised proposal to the purchasing manager".
- Why: one or two sentences with the evidence from the record, such as a date, a name, an open question or an overdue promise.
- TIMING: when to do it, for example today, this week or next week.
Steps are based only on data in the record: its fields, and depending on your admin's setup, its activities and related records. When a record has little history, expect re-engagement suggestions rather than specific ones.
Create a task from a step#
Click + Task on a step. AI Engine creates a Salesforce task and the button changes to ✓ Task created.
The task is set up like this:
| Task field | Value |
|---|---|
| Subject | The step's action |
| Description | The step's "why" text |
| Status | Not Started |
| Priority | Normal |
| Assigned To | You |
| Name or Related To | The current record. Leads and contacts go in Name; other records go in Related To |
| Due Date | Based on the timing (see below) |
| Timing | Due date |
|---|---|
| Today, immediately or now | Today |
| Tomorrow or 1 business day | Tomorrow |
| 2 days | In 2 days |
| This week | In 3 days |
| Next week | In 7 days |
| 2 weeks | In 14 days |
| Month | In 30 days |
| Anything else | In 3 days |
The task is a normal Salesforce task. Edit, reassign or close it as usual.
Next Steps on the AI Score card#
The AI Score card on Lead and Opportunity pages has its own 📌 Next Steps button once the record has a score. It shows a short numbered list of steps inside the card, always in English, without the why, the timing or task buttons. To create tasks, use ▶ Next Steps in the Sales Agent. See The AI Score card.
Good to know#
- Nothing is created until you click + Task.
- The task is created with your own Salesforce permissions. If you cannot edit one of the fields above, for example Description, the task is still created but that field is left empty.
- Steps are suggestions. Check them against what you know about the customer before acting.
- The steps are written in the language chosen in the language selector. See Languages.
- The due date is worked out from the English timing words in the table above. If your steps are in another language, the task may get the default due date of three days; change it in the task if needed.
Troubleshooting#
- Steps are generic: the record has few activities or little detail. Log calls and meetings on the record, or ask your admin whether activities and related records are included for this object.
- The button does not change to ✓ Task created: the task could not be created. No error message is shown. Usually your profile or permission sets do not allow creating tasks. Ask your admin.
